What Is Reiki?

The word Reiki is actually a combination of two Japanese words ‘Rei’ and ‘Ki’. ‘Rei’ is the healing energy of the Universe and ‘Ki’ is the energy within. Thus Reiki means the transformation of the healing energy of the universe into the energy within. (Ghare. M) (1)

Reiki Treatment

You can relax, fully clothed, on a table, couch or seated while the healer holds her/his hands on or above you. A treatment can last an hour or longer depending on the treatment required. There is no pressure on the body making it ideal for treating all ages and conditions, sometimes hands are even held away from the body. The energy flows wherever it is required (spiritually guided) and can normally be felt as a warm sensation or tingling in the body. Receiving Reiki is a very relaxing and soothing experience. (Reiki.org) (2)

A treatment can feel like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results. (Reiki.org) (2)

Reiki energy healing therapy is often carried out via a process of channeling this energy through the laying of hands. This means that a Reiki therapist will often cause the energy force of the universe to be transmitted into the recipient’s body via her/his hands. (Ghare. M) (1)

There are also several higher methods of Reiki healing which can provide energy healing long distance and via their eyes (Ghare. M) (1)

There are two schools of thought with Reiki – the traditional Japanese method that uses more intuitive guidance and the western method of particular hand positions covering certain organ areas etc. (Reiki.nu) (3)

*I personally choose to use the more traditional Japanese method. This is why I have been able to develop new techniques for healing particular conditions.

All the matter in the universe is made up energy. This energy surrounds every living as well as non-living thing in the world. Similarly, the earth itself is a unique powerhouse of energy. This energy source is held to be inexhaustible and abundant of positive healing forces. (Ghare. M) (1)

Within us human beings, there are said to be seven centres (or Chakras) of energy. Each Chakra controls and manages the functions of different aspects of our life on several levels including organs surrounding that area. The Chakras (from top to the bottom) are said to be at the Crown or the Head, the Third Eye, Throat, Heart, Upper Stomach, Lower Belly and Sacral regions of our body. The flow or blockage of the flow of the energy between these Chakras and the Universe is supposed to cause a general balance or imbalance of forces within us. (Ghare. M) (1)

The credit of creating or discovering this unique method of healing with energy goes to a Japanese Buddhist called Mikao Usui. He said that this method of energy healing therapy came to him after several days of meditation, prayer and fasting. (Ghare. M) (1)

(Please observe that Reiki should never be used instead of medical treatment, it should be used as a complimentary therapy and a way to become and remain healthy.) (Ghare. M) (1)
